The Human Spirit

In The movie GATTACA it is about a man named vincent. Vincent was a natural birth without any of the special modifications other people are getting. He also has a brother who was technically made in a lab and has no physical unlike his brother who has a vision and heart issue. This quote that i picked had to do with spirit, no matter how good you physical features are, you can't change spirit. For example Jerome was perfect he had everything he needed, But he was flawed in one thing his spirit. Also vincent had many body problems but he had a very strong spirit and will to succeed.

This issue is shown through the movie in many different ways, from a strong will power to a very little one. The two major examples where vincent and jerome, Jerome had everything and vincent did not. Vincent couldn't get into GATTACA because he didn't have the proper validation, he wasn't made in a lab. He also had eye, heart problems, and wasn’t supposed to live past 30. But he had a very strong will power and spirit. Even with this vincent did everything in his power to get into GATTACA. Jerome however, had everything, the body, and the power to get into GATTACA, which he did. Jerome however didn’t have a powerful soul, he had drinking problems and depressed. Also he had a problem with competitions, he was in a swimming race and he didnt come first, he came second. Instead of accepting his place he got depressed and walked in front of a car breaking his back. Jerome then was crippled and had to stay in a wheel chair.

I feel that you can’t have one without the other, You can't have the perfect physical set-up without the perfect emotional set up. All those perfect traits could go to waste like they did with jerome because he could see past his failures and see how lucky he is. Unlike vincent he had the perfect mindset to go above and beyond the average person. Unfortunately vincent didn't have the body to make his dreams come true, he was a natural birth so he had defects. But even with these he did his best to achieve his goals.
